DO Dress for a day in the sun. Include hats, sunglasses and sunscreen

DON’T Fish from private property without permission

DO Make sure kids have all proper safety gear for being on or near the water

DON’T Take live bait from one body of water to another. YOU can prevent invasive species!

DO Check that everyone in your party has the correct, up to date license

DON’T Be afraid to ask questions of other anglers. Most are glad to help!

Some popular Lake Simcoe sport fish and where and how to get them

Yellow Perch: One of Simcoe’s most popular fish, for both catching and eating. Look for them in shallow water in the spring, deeper as it warms. Often found near docks and undercuts. Bobbers and worms work great on perch

Smallmouth Bass: These like clear water, with shoals or rock to sand transitions on the bottom. Diving crankbaits (try a perch color) always work well

Largemouth Bass: They like shallow and weedy water like Cook’s Bay, where they are often in undercuts or docks. Leeches and jig and pig are the best for lunkers, and they respond well to soft baits too

Pike: Pike like to wait along the edge of weed beds for their food. Troll or cast diving crank baits in front of them for furious action. In summertime look for them in around 4-5 meters of water

Black Crappie: Found in dark water, usually near docks or underwater obstructions. Fish them with a small spinner or worms. Great fish for a pan fry!

Remember, a bad day fishin’ is better than a good day workin’
